Understanding the marker

GGT is an enzyme measured in liver and bile-duct assessment. It helps interpret patterns in other liver tests, especially ALP.

Several factors can affect GGT, including medicines and alcohol, but the result cannot establish alcohol intake or its amount. It is read with the other liver tests and health history. A value within the interval does not exclude all liver disease.

What does high GGT mean?

A high GGT is assessed with other liver tests and relevant medicine and health information. It does not show a specific cause or prove alcohol use. A persistent elevation needs evaluation.

What does low GGT mean?

An isolated low GGT is usually of limited significance. It does not replace assessment of other liver results or symptoms.
