Understanding the marker
Apo A1 is the main protein in HDL particles, which help transport cholesterol in the blood.
The test measures the concentration of Apo A1 protein, not the number of HDL particles. It adds context to other blood-fat results. A high concentration does not remove the importance of LDL, blood pressure or other cardiovascular risk factors.
What does high Apolipoprotein A1 mean?
A high Apo A1 result indicates more of this HDL-associated protein. It does not guarantee protection from cardiovascular disease; the other lipid results and health history remain relevant.
What does low Apolipoprotein A1 mean?
A low Apo A1 result is considered with HDL, Apo B and the rest of the lipid profile. It can contribute to cardiovascular risk assessment, but does not determine personal risk on its own.
