Triglycerides are the main storage fat in the blood. Elevated levels are linked to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and overweight.
Triglycerides rise after meals. Under current Swedish practice the sample can usually be taken non-fasting - a clearly raised non-fasting value is rechecked with a fasting sample. Very high values raise the risk of pancreatitis, and moderately raised values contribute to cardiovascular risk.
What does low Triglycerides mean?
Low values are usually not a clinical concern.
What does high Triglycerides mean?
High triglycerides appear with sugar- and alcohol-heavy diets, overweight, diabetes, and some medications.
