Understanding the marker
LH is made by the pituitary gland. It helps trigger ovulation in the ovaries and supports testosterone production in the testes.
LH is interpreted with FSH, other hormone results and symptoms. Cycle timing and hormone treatment matter when relevant. Comparing LH with FSH does not establish a hormonal diagnosis on its own.
What does high LH mean?
A high LH result needs the appropriate age and reproductive context. It can vary normally at particular stages or reflect a change in hormone feedback. The result alone does not establish the reason.
What does low LH mean?
A low LH result can reflect reduced hormone signalling or treatment effects. The related hormone values and the reason for testing help determine whether it is expected.
