Progesterone rises after ovulation and prepares the uterus for possible pregnancy. The value is used to confirm ovulation and assess fertility.
Testing is usually done in the luteal phase, about 7 days before the next expected period.
What does low Progesterone mean?
Low progesterone in the luteal phase can suggest absent ovulation.
What does high Progesterone mean?
High values are normal in pregnancy and the luteal phase.
