CRP rises rapidly in infection and inflammation. It is used primarily to detect ongoing acute inflammation.
CRP is produced in the liver in response to inflammatory signals. It rises within hours of infection and falls as the inflammation settles. It is a blunt marker - it tells you something is happening, but not what.
