EVF measures the proportion of blood that is made up of red cells. It tracks Hb closely and is used together with it to assess anaemia and hydration.
Haematocrit is the volume of red cells divided by the total blood volume. A low value appears in the same situations as low Hb. A high value can reflect dehydration or, less often, the body producing too many red cells.
What does low Haematocrit (EVF) mean?
Low EVF means anaemia and is interpreted alongside Hb, MCV, and ferritin to find the cause.
What does high Haematocrit (EVF) mean?
High EVF most often reflects dehydration. A persistent elevation needs further investigation.
